Displaying results on an old Android tablet
Once you are all set, you may have a wonderful graph, but you need to display it somewhere in the room. You can opt for something classy or an equally good-looking, yet budget-friendly, old Android tablet. We’ve chosen the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite. You can get it 2nd hand for a dozen dollars. (I got a brand new for $20.)
Basic features:
- 7” display, 600 x 1024 pixels
- Android 4.2.2
- Discontinued 2014
Such an old system does not support modern web pages, and has very limited support for Google Play - which might make working with the tab seem next to impossible. However, with the right tools and steps, you can repurpose it effectively for your needs.
Here is how to make it work as always on display:
- (Starting from factory reset device)
- Update the system
- Download NeverSleeper, install it by clicking on the file in Downloads folder (and enabling installation from unknown sources)
- Test you can open the graph image from Chrome https://api.2minlog.com/img?graphPublic=GPUB-xxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
- Use imgtuner.com to make it full screen or cycle between multiple images. An example of the URL is https://imgtuner.com/?img=https://api.2minlog.com/img?graphPublic=GPUB-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx. Click to resize the image to full screen. It automatically refreshes the image every 5 minutes.
Here is an example of the Arduino themistor showing the graph.
